Our crisis of unhelpfulness | RevThink

Perhaps you’ve noticed that when it comes to the topic of positioning, I’m obsessed.

Why? Because every day I meet yet another creative firm failing to articulate who they are, how they do what they do, and why they do it.

In a word, being unhelpful.

A few years ago, this was a problem… but fast forward to today…

It’s a crisis.

To illustrate my point, here is a real quote (from a real client) that I just had to share:

“The process of finding a designer is insanely challenging. I know if I throw a croissant in a coffee shop, I’ll hit one. But how do I find the right vendor for my brand? Seriously, tell me what to Google!” – Andrew Brentan, Field Trip Art Advisory

It’s so ironic. Design is supposed to make things easier! But designers (artists, animators, directors, editors, producers, etc.) are making things harder.

I believe we can do better. Which is why this Thursday at the Bend Design Conference in Bend, Oregon, I’m throwing down the gauntlet.

And no, appeasing the Google Gods is not the answer…

More soon,

Joel
